History & Facts

Howard Johnson's Regency Motor Hotel opened in 1996, and in 1977 Caesars purchased the hotel. 

Caesars Entertainment undertook a major remodeling of the building, adding 7 floors, and expanding the number of rooms from 425 to 548. 

The casino area was 52,000 square feet and opened on June 26, 1979. It is the second casino in the city after Resort International, which opened in 1978. 

The casino opened under the name Boardwalk Regency, as Caesars was under investigation by the Casino Control Commission. In 1983 it became Caesars Boardwalk Regency.

In 1985 a new expansion was made in which the Circus Maximus Showroom was added, with a seating capacity of 1100. This room has hosted major entertainers and celebrities since its inception. 

In 1987, the name of the complex was changed to Caesars Atlantic City, the name it has today. Since then it has undergone several renovations that have made it one of the largest resorts in Atlantic City. 

In 2020, Caesars Entertainment announced that further renovations and repairs would be made to the resort and its two other properties in this city.
